Our History
Founded in 1952, the Brooklyn Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is a proud network of professional African-American women committed to uplifting the Brooklyn community through educational, civic, and cultural initiatives. Guided by the mission of our national organization, The Links, Incorporated, our chapter continues a rich legacy of delivering impactful programs across five key areas:
The Arts, Services to Youth, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services, and Health and Human Services.
In 1960, moved by the alarming dropout rates among African American teens in Brooklyn’s high schools, the Brooklyn Chapter of The Links, Incorporated launched Salute to Youth—a visionary program designed to inspire and reward academic and artistic excellence. Focused on uplifting students from Brooklyn’s neighborhoods, this two-fold initiative offers college-bound seniors both scholarship support and personal counseling. Additionally, it honors high school students who exhibit exceptional talent in the visual arts, music, dance, drama, and creative writing with public recognition and financial awards.
Through the Salute to Youth Project, the Chapter’s 501(c)(3) foundation, we have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in Brooklyn’s youth. With a legacy spanning decades, this program stands as one of the most impactful efforts in the borough to provide scholarships and monetary awards to college-bound students of African descent.
