The Arts Facet.
The Arts Facet supports dance, drama, music, visual arts and creative writing to encourage the appreciation of and support for cultural enrichment.
To celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2002, the Brooklyn Chapter of The Links, Incorporated launched the Women of African Descent Film Festival (WADFF) through its Arts Facet. Held annually on the first Saturday in May at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus, the festival highlights the work of filmmakers of African descent, showcasing narratives and documentaries in independent, college, and youth categories.
WADFF celebrates and preserves the rich legacy of people of African descent by amplifying stories of empowerment, leadership, sisterhood, and cultural identity. The festival provides a platform for women filmmakers to reach wider audiences, while also inspiring the next generation of storytellers. Teen and emerging filmmakers are especially encouraged to participate and share their vision of the Black experience through film.
Presented in partnership with the Brooklyn Arts Council, Con Edison, Long Island University’s Media Arts Department, and Reel Works, WADFF continues to receive strong community support and funding from local and state agencies.
An award-winning initiative, the festival has earned numerous recognitions from The Links, Incorporated for excellence in arts programming, including First Place and Legacy Awards at the Eastern Area level.
